Anthropic gives outside AI watchdog “employee-like” access

Anthropic(Anthropic公司,一家AI初创企业) has granted external evaluators(外部评估者) “employee-like access”(类员工权限;准员工级访问权限) to assess the risks of its models, following through on(履行;兑现) a commitment(承诺) to increase safeguards(防护措施;安全防线) over concerns the technology could run catastrophically(灾难性地) out of control(失控).

METR(Model Evaluation and Threat Research,模型评估与威胁研究,一家非营利组织), a nonprofit(非营利组织) that has worked with leading labs(头部实验室;领先实验室) including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta, now has a team embedded(嵌入式驻场;深度融合) in the Claude maker( Claude开发者/制造者) ’s office with access to its hardware(硬件) and internal systems(内部系统).

A greater role for third-party evaluators(第三方评估者) is among the main concrete steps(具体措施;切实步骤) the labs have proposed in response to rising concern(日益加剧的担忧) about the dangers more capable AI systems could pose to(对……构成威胁) the economy, cyber security(网络安全) and humanity at large(全人类;广大民众).

Science says your boss should talk less in meetings

正文:

Close to 1 billion meetings take place each day around the world. CEOs(首席执行官) spend nearly three-quarters of their workdays in meetings. Planning for and spearheading(领导;主导) meetings eats up(消耗;耗尽) the lion’s share(最大份额;大部分) of managers’ time.

In much of the industrialized world, meetings are both the metronomes(节拍器;此处比喻“节奏控制者”) and menaces(威胁;祸害) of people’s working lives. Given the enormous time spent in workplace meetings, do we know what they accomplish or how to make them as worthwhile(值得的;有价值的) as possible?

For decades, the answer was… not really. Meetings weren’t a particularly accessible(易接近的;易懂的) subject of study. But that has changed. Once a tiny niche(利基的;小众的) area, “meeting science”(会议科学) is a growing specialization among organizational(组织的) and social psychologists(社会心理学家).

The field is accelerating(加速发展) as archived(存档的) virtual meetings(视频会议;虚拟会议) provide vast swaths(大片;大量) of data. And it is providing a fascinating(迷人的;极有趣的) window into human behavior. Meeting to talk helps fulfill(满足;实现) basic human needs to connect(连接;沟通), communicate(交流), and cooperate(合作).

People have long come together—in caves(洞穴), fields(田野), market squares(集市广场), and town halls(市政厅;市民大会)—to get something done, share ideas, get on the same page(达成共识;想法一致), or just to remark on(评论;谈论) the weather.

But meeting scientists define their subject as gatherings(聚会;集会) of people “with some goal or structure to the event,” says organizational psychologist Liana Kreamer(莉亚娜·克雷默,人名) of the Florida Institute of Technology(佛罗里达理工学院), who coauthored(合著) a review(综述;评论文章) of over three decades of meeting science in the 2026 Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior(《组织心理学与组织行为学年度评论》).
